Offering the Abacus course for kids, Up Learning is all set to train young kids. For children, mathematics is one such subject which is not enjoyed by them. But it’s time to reconceive the thoughts for the same. Providing Abacus coaching for kids, Up Learning has customized fun-learning sessions for kids.
Abacus isn’t a new technique. It has existed for ages but has been underrated over the years. The word Abacus came from the Greek word “abax,” which means a flat surface. It is an instrument which is used for making calculations. It has a frame in which beads are designed to slide on rods, so mental calculation can be done by observing the Abacus. This tool can be used to add, subtract, division multiplication square, and cube roots with speedy tricks.
In ancient Babylonian civilization, merchants and traders maintained long-distance trade relations with other countries. Abacus proved to be a handy instrument in carrying out calculations and maintaining a wide range of records. In those times, people were using the calculation in their day to day life activities. In order to make calculations less difficult and monotonous, Abacus was founded to make the process of calculations easy and quick. We have abundant sources in history from these civilizations, where flat boards were designed with small stones and pebbles.
With the course of time, a proper wooden flat surface was taken with colorful beads and metal rods. So in physical appearance, it has changed a lot, but the basic idea of the calculation is still intact; that is why it is even now used in many parts of the world. Even in modern times, it is considered as a unique tool to assist children in understanding mathematics in a fun and easy way. Little children, most of the time, find it difficult to grasp complicated mathematics steps, so Abacus is something which makes them love mathematics by generating their curiosity. Before Abacus many other tools were used in Roman and Greek civilizations, but they were not as accurate, which resulted in their deterioration. Abacus was used in other countries with different names like in Japan; it is called “Soroban” with some modifications, and in Russia, it is called “Schoty,” which is in existence even today. The use of Abacus has helped mankind tremendously to master complicated formula of calculations.
In the modern-day, Abacus is introduced to students as the first calculator, and they are coaxed to do various mathematical sums by using this tool. They become more attentive and alert, which leads to their cognitive development. Not just that, they become more agile and fearless for new challenges and learn to coordinate different activities. The rigorous challenges make them form a pictorial representation of numbers and images in their mind, and they start doing these activities mentally, which reduce the use of pen and paper. The child can see, count, and match the beads of Abacus and reach a solution. It is beneficial for sharpening their calculation speed and becoming more confident while doing sums.
Any kid above 4 years of age who knows the counting from 1 to 50 can enroll for Abacus classes in Pune. Every session (online as well as offline) will be a round-table session with a batch of 3 kids at a time on weekends. In this course, kids will be educated to operate Abacus in doing a large number of calculations or mental mathematics problems. It is designed to provide skills to observe and visualize the problems and enable them to do it mentally. These brainstorming skills help students in unlocking their mental skills and also make them fearless of mathematics. With a vision to boost mental exercises among kids, the course designed at Up Learning is designed as per age-group –
Age group Number of levels
4 to 6 3
7 to 11 6
Each level will have about 18 sessions of 1 hour each with a daily dose of brain teasers and puzzles.
To enroll for the next level, the student has to pass the test. Every level has a test along with a passing certificate to boost the students.
